Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) - Texas Education Freedom Accounts

What is it? Texas Education Freedom Accounts (also called Education Savings Accounts or ESAs) are state-funded scholarships that help Texas families pay for private school education. This program recognizes that parents should have the freedom to choose the best educational environment for their children.

Who qualifies?

  • Students in Pre-K 4 and up are eligible
  • Priority is given to families with students who have special education needs or are from lower-income households
  • Additional eligibility requirements are determined by the Texas Education Agency
  • Both new private school families and those already enrolled may qualify

What does it cover?

  • The Texas Education Freedom Accounts provide funding that can be applied directly toward tuition at eligible private schools like St. Peter School
  • Funds may also cover eligible educational expenses such as curriculum materials, tutoring, and educational therapies
  • St. Peter School is an approved participant in this program, meeting all state accreditation requirements

How much?

  • Award amounts vary based on student grade level, special needs status, and family circumstances
  • For the 2026-27 school year, awards are expected to range from approximately $8,000 to $12,000 per student
  • Families apply through the state's official portal, which typically opens in early spring for the following school year
  • Awards are renewable annually as long as eligibility requirements continue to be met

What does this mean for your family? If your family qualifies, the Education Freedom Account can significantly reduce or even cover the entire cost of tuition at St. Peter School. This means you can access:

  • Our nationally accredited Christian education program (NLSA)
  • Small class sizes (maximum 20 students) with individualized attention
  • A faith-based curriculum that develops "Scholars, Servants, and Saints"
  • Brand new 22,000 square foot education facility opening in 2026-27
  • Experienced, credentialed teachers who care about your child's spiritual and academic growth
  • Partnership with the Herzog Foundation, ensuring educational excellence

Important details:

  • The application process is managed by the state of Texas, not individual schools
  • Families maintain their ESA funds as long as they remain eligible and their student attends an approved school
  • You can use ESA funds at St. Peter School starting with our Pre-K 4 program and continuing through our elementary grades (K-5)
  • Our kindergarten program launches in the 2026-27 school year, with one grade added each subsequent year

Why choose St. Peter School with your ESA? Your Education Freedom Account isn't just about affording private school—it's about choosing the right school for your child. At St. Peter School, your ESA investment provides:
